22nd Street Loft - NYC
New York, NY

D&A, in collaboration with RARARA Architects, was asked to reposition a loft condominium in the historic Spears Building on Manhattan’s west side. Adjacent to the High Line, the former cigarette factory was chopped into residential units in the early 1990’s. The building’s signature features had been concealed behind layers of plaster and paint. The new design exposed these elements, such as large oak beams and columns, ornate metal capitals and brick walls, and completely reconfigured the residence’s layout, relocating bedrooms and adding a third bath, balancing the industrial beauty of its former use and the needs of a young growing family. The project was completed in 2019.
